De Fisker Karma is een luxueuze sportsedan met plug in hybride aandrijving. De auto is ontworpen door Henrik Fisker en gebouwd in Finland. Vanaf 2011 zijn er wereldwijd bijna 2.500 Fisker Karma’s verkocht. In 2013 viel het doek voor Fisker. Het bedrijf is in Chinese handen en een herintroductie van de Karma is niet ondenkbaar.
Fisker Karma
De Fisker Karma is een auto ontworpen door Henrik Fisker. Voordat hij in 2008 zijn eigen Fisker Karma aan het publiek liet zien, heeft Henrik Fisker zijn sporen allang verdiend in de automobielindustrie. Van zijn hand komen namelijk de designs van onder andere: BMW Z8, Aston Martin DB9 en de Aston Martin V8 Vantage. Zelfs het initiële ontwerp van de Tesla Model S komt uit zijn pen.
In 2008 maakt het publiek kennis met de Fisker Karma. Toch rollen de eerste modellen eind 2011 uit de fabriek. Wereldwijd worden er bijna 2.500 auto’s verkocht, waarvan het merendeel al reeds in het eerste jaar in Europa en Noord-Amerika is verkocht. Eind 2013 wordt het faillissement voor Fisker Automotive aangevraagd vanwege financiële problemen. Het bedrijf en de rechten komen in Chinese handen.
Het is niet ondenkbaar dat er ooit weer een Karma op de markt beschikbaar komt. Want aan de auto heeft het nimmer gelegen. De Fisker Karma is een tweepersoons sport sedan. Het unieke is dat het een van de eerste sportwagens is met een elektromotor als primaire aandrijving. De auto is mede door de korte levensduur van het bedrijf, een collectors item geworden.
Uitrusting
De Fisker Karma is beschikbaar in meerdere uitvoeringen: EcoStandard, EcoSport en EcoChic. Voor elke liefhebber is er een Karma die aansluit op de wensen en voorkeuren. Vind je luxe en comfort belangrijker, of leg je liever de nadruk op het sportieve karakter van de auto?

- Actieradius (volledig elektrisch): 83 kilometer*
- Actieradius (met range extender): 370 kilometer
De luxueuze auto is voorzien van een plug-in hybride aandrijving. De Karma heeft primair een tweetal elektromotoren (elk 161 pk) als aandrijving op de achterwielen. De elektromotor wordt gevoed door het accupakket (20,1 kWh, lithium-ion), welke opgeladen kan worden door de auto met een kabel aan te sluiten op een voedingsbron, zoals een laadpaal, laadstation of willekeurig stopcontact.
Bij het leeg raken van het accupakket, start het systeem de 2.0 liter turbo Ecotec benzinemotor (260 pk). Echter, deze drijft niet direct de wielen aan, maar voorziet als generator de elektromotor van stroom en laadt tegelijkertijd de accu een beetje op. Zo kan de elektromotor de wielen blijven aandrijven en kan de rit vervolgd worden. Dit systeem is de range extender en op deze wijze kan de actieradius met een factor 7 worden vermenigvuldigd. De verbrandingsmotor verbruikt in deze modus slechts 2,1 liter brandstof per 100 kilometer*. Wil je toch alleen op de verbrandingsmotor rijden, dan kan dat ook. In dat geval is het verbruik 9,2 liter per 100 kilometer*.
Het dak van de Fisker Karma is feitelijk een zonnepaneel. Het wekt in één dag ongeveer een halve kWh aan stroom op. Als je dat zou gebruiken om te rijden, dan kun je er een handvol kilometers ver mee komen. De stroom welke wordt opgewekt door het dak, wordt gebruikt om de 12 Volt accu op te laden, waar alle elektronica in de auto op aangesloten is.

Concurrentie
De concurrentie van de Fisker Karma moet worden gezocht in luxueuze sport sedans met een (semi-) elektrische aandrijving. Denk aan de Tesla Model S, Porsche Panamera en wellicht de BMW i8. Ook kun je kiezen uit een ruim aanbod van luxueuze SUV’s met (semi-) elektrische aandrijving. Ook sportwagens, maar dan van een andere orde zijn de Porsche 918 Spyder, Ferrari LaFerrari of McLaren P1.
Prijzen en bijtelling
De nieuwprijs van de Fisker Karma was vanaf € 108.000,-. Zoek je op de markt van gebruikte auto’s, dan koop je al een Karma voor iets meer dan € 43.000,-. Goed zoeken en vergelijken kan veel geld besparen. Vergelijk ook de technische gegevens en reeds uitgevoerde onderhoudsbeurten. Dit voorkomt vervelende financiële verrassingen.
