De nieuwe Ford Focus Electric is een 100% elektrisch aangedreven uitvoering van het succesvolle model van de Amerikaanse autofabrikant. Vanaf 2013 is de Ford Focus Electric ook op de Nederlandse markt beschikbaar. Met de Focus Electric laat Ford zien dat men serieus aansluiting zoekt bij de ontwikkelingen op het gebied van het zuinige en groene autorijden.

Met de Ford Focus Electric laat de Amerikaanse autofabrikant zien, dat men ook serieus meedenkt over en gelooft in alternatieve wijzen van aandrijving van de auto. Naast de 100% elektrisch aangedreven Ford Focus, heeft men ook een plug-in hybride C-Max en een hybride Mondeo in het assortiment.
Design
De Ford Focus Electric is feitelijk een Ford Focus van de vierde generatie. Het design van de nieuwe Focus is zo ontwikkeld, dat er minimale luchtweerstand is. Dat is ook voor de Electric van belang, want dat kost minder energie en dus kun je verder rijden op jouw accucapaciteit. De nieuwe neus van de Focus is herkenbaar voor de nieuwe generatie Ford-modellen. De auto oogt dynamisch en modern. Op basis van de jarenlange ervaring van Ford, is men er weer in geslaagd een solide en volwassen auto neer te zetten.
Waar veel andere autofabrikanten een geheel nieuwe auto ontwikkelen voor het elektrisch rijden, of in ieder geval op de tekentafel al rekening houden met de elektrische aandrijving, is de Ford Focus Electric een verbouwde ‘standaard Focus’. Dat zie je er aan de buitenkant niet aan af, maar binnenin is dat wel te merken. Een deel van de ruimte in de kofferbak is opgeofferd voor het accupakket.
Uitrusting
De nieuwe Ford Focus Electric is leverbaar in de Titanium uitvoering. Standaard krijg je LED verlichting in de auto, LED achterlichten, keyless entry, elektrisch verstelbare spiegels, 17” lichtmetalen wielen, ABS, ESP, achteruitrijcamera, SONY audiosysteem met 9 speakers, dual zone automatische airconditioning en nog veel meer. Tegen meerprijs zijn opties beschikbaar, zoals privacy glass, Bi-Xenon koplampen, parkeersensoren, lichtsensoren en halflederen bekleding.

De nieuwe Ford Focus Electric is voorzien van een elektromotor met een vermogen van 145 pk en 250 Nm. De motor wordt gevoed door een 23kWh vloeistof gekoeld lithium-ion accusysteem. De transmissie gaat via een automaat.
Het opladen van de Ford Focus Electric geschiedt via een kabel met stekker, waarmee je de auto koppelt aan een laadpunt. Dat kan aan een willekeurig stopcontact, maar sneller gaat het opladen aan een openbaar laadpunt of een Charging Wall Box, die je thuis kunt installeren. Er bestaan ook snelladers, die de laadtijd nog meer inkorten. Laat je goed informeren welke laadstation geschikt is voor het opladen van jouw Ford Focus Electric.
Oplaadtijden variëren afhankelijk van de sterkte van de bron (10/16/32 Ampère), hoe leeg de accu is en hoe vol je hem wilt hebben. Een lege accu helemaal vol laden duurt aan het reguliere stopcontact (10 Ampère) circa 11 uur en aan een snellader (32 Ampère) toch nog 2 uur.
Concurrentie
De Ford Focus Electric heeft concurrentie van andere volledige elektrisch aangedreven auto’s, zoals de Kia Soul EV, Volkswagen e-Golf, Nissan Leaf, Mercedes-Benz B-klasse Electric Drive, BMW i3 en de drieling Mitsubishi i-MiEV, Citroen C-Zero en Peugeot iOn.
